A complex adaptive system consists of components that are dynamically interconnected and complex, such that the behavior of the ensemble may not be anticipated from the behavior of the individual parts. It is adaptive in the sense that both individual and group behavior adapts and self-organizes in response to the micro-event or cluster of micro-events that trigger the shift. The CAS characteristics are applicable to all system domains. In this project, I was observing and arranging the components of Pazar as a complex adaptive system.
In Beirut's history, there are many conflicts. Beirut has been in a chaotic state since 1975, with the Lebanese Civil War and then the massively destructive explosion at the Beirut port on August 4, 2020, drew the world's attention to the site.
To interpret this chaotic state into a physical complex adaptive system, I used Chaos Theory.
Chaos Theory is concerned with dynamic processes that are extremely hard to anticipate or regulate. This phenomenon is frequently described using fractal mathematics, which represents nature's infinite complexity. Landscapes, growth of an Arabic city, clouds, trees, organs, rivers, and many other natural objects exhibit fractal qualities, and many of the systems in which we live display complex, chaotic activity.
