Hverfjall is a tephra cone or tuff ring volcano in northern Iceland. Tephra has been carried from Hverfjall all over the Mývatn area. The whole area is created by the soft lines of volcanic action. The landscape still feels fluid.
The volcano cafe originates from these smooth lines of the volcanic landscape. The extrusion of these lines creates the space.
The surface of the building is reflective. It serves to the observer's eye different perspectives from the field and blending in.During dark hours, it reflects the aurora borealis lights under the clear sky.
Iceland Cinema
On a tectonic divide between Europe and America in darkness, isolated from intense light exposure, individual light rays spearing through the jagged rocks create a rare landscape. This was the first realization that inspired us to think about cameras, projection, and darkness in the cinema. In cinema, the same light rays create emotions, stories, and landscapes and gather many people together.
In this project, with the reflection of the two plates’ position, we are expressing the connection between dark, light, and cinema.
